Spring Break and Annoyances

Wow! I've been away for a little while. I didn't even realize it until I looked at my last post date. I don't know if I've ever gone this long without posting something. There is a good reason though.

It's spring break for the kids so we've been busy with other stuff. My daughter is playing softball, my son and I have been hitting the links, and I've been working on some home improvement projects even though the April showers here in the Pacific Northwest are a little showery than normal.

Anyway, I'll try to post at least once a week if I can but hey, the Summer's coming. So cut me some slack.

Here's something to chew on though. There's something that annoys me even more than the misuse of the word edify. It's the misuse of the words their and there. IBOs aren't the only ones guilty of this one. I've seen people on both sides of the Quixtar fence guilty of this one. Just read comments here or at any other blog and you'll see what I'm talking about.

A quick English lesson:

The word their is used to describe personal ownership. For example:

"Their Quixtar business is failing due to their over-spending on motivational tools."

A good example of how to use the word there would be to describe placement of a noun. For instance:

"Oh yes, the business meeting at the Jones' house. I was there for a few minutes before I realized what it was. Then I got my butt out of there."

You see? With a little practice, even the most ignorant Americans can give the illusion of intelligence.
